Solution Overview
The eCloudManager™ VPLEX Orchestrator is based on eCloudManager Product Suite, an innovative infrastructure and cloud monitoring, management and orchestration platform based on semantic technologies. Through the integration with VPLEX, the eCloudManager delivers business continuity for any application, on any kind of storage, and across geographically-distributed data centers. The following functionalities are made available through the eCloudManager VPLEX Orchestrator:
- Snapshot and Restore Features for Systems hosted on VPLEX Distributed Virtual Volumes for any underlying EMC storage or non-EMC storage;
- Application consistency automation;
- Easy to use GUI for the end users;
- Enable integration with 3rd party tools through open API;
- Deep integration and unified view of VPLEX Distributed Virtual Volumes, and their underlying enterprise storage systems, but also compute infrastructure / hypervisors, and applications;
Main Supported Use Cases
Snap, Clone and Restore on top of VPLEX
The VPLEX Orchestrator extends the VPLEX active storage virtualization by adding basic functionalities such as snap, clone and restore on top of VPLEX Local, VPLEX Metro and VPLEX Geo. The underlying storage can be either EMC storage (DMX/VMAX, VNX, CLARiiOn, or Celerra) or non-EMC storage (HDS, NetApp, SUN, HP, etc.). The VPLEX Orchestrator supports virtual environments on VMware, XEN, Hyper-V and Citrix, as well as physical environments, e.g. IBM-AIX, HP-UX, or SUN/Oracle Solaris. Snap, clone and restore operations allow users to create system backups as well as development, test or training sandboxes on top of VPLEX.
Ensure Application Consistency
Application consistency can also be automated with the VPLEX Orchestrator. When creating snaps or clones or when restoring systems hosted on VPLEX Virtual Volumes, the VPLEX Orchestrator automates the re-registration of VMs, ensures that the applications are correctly mapped to the LUNs they are running on, and performs application health checks as well as SLA checks.
Monitor VPLEX Distributed Virtual Volumes and Hosted Applications
Using the VPLEX Orchestrator users can also keep track of the applications hosted on VPLEX distributed Virtual Volumes and visualize the dependencies of clusters, Virtual Volumes, storages, infrastructure, and applications.
