Cloud computing has emerged as a model in support of “everything as a service” – cloud technologies enable an on-demand, elastic, and scalable provisioning of resources. Complementarily, semantic technologies provide the means for making sense of heterogeneous data at large scale.
At fluidOps, we do research and development at the interface of both technologies:
- We develop solutions for the management of linked data and semantic applications in the cloud, allowing the end user to develop novel linked data applications in a self-service style.
- We develop technologies that improve the management and maintenance of clouds by using semantic technologies across the whole IT stack.
The Information Workbench – A Platform for Linked Data Applications in the Cloud
With existing datasets growing and new data being added constantly, the Linked Open Data (LOD) cloud becomes increasingly interesting for the Enterprise, allowing companies to augment and complement internal knowledge with external information. The development of domain-specific applications that benefit from LOD repositories, though, is often a time-consuming and costly task.
The process of building linked data applications in a self-service manner is supported and driven by the following features of the Information Workbench:
- the concept of data providers, which form the basis for information integration and enable the fast pay-as-you-go integration of legacy data sources from virtually every accessible data source,
- a flexible, widget-based user interface, which is highly configurable and easily extendable,
- the deployment of the Information Workbench as an appliance on Cloud Infrastructure.
