Much of the know-how, innovation and embrace of open source sharing of ideas goes back to ongoing close ties and engagements with the research community, e.g. with the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and the Research Center for Information Technology (FZI) in Karlsruhe, with projects ranging from cloud computing test-beds, semantic technologies, to research on the economics of clouds.
