With 600 attendees, the International Semantic Web Conference (ISWC) is the major international forum where the latest research results and technical innovations on all aspects of the Semantic Web are presented. This year’s ISWC will take place between October 23 and October 27 at the Maritim Hotel in Bonn, Germany.
The Information Workbench – A Platform for Linked Data Applications
fluid Operations is sponsoring this year’s ISWC and will be presenting and showcasing the Information Workbench and its application areas at booth #B4. Designed as a web-based platform for Linked Data solutions for the enterprise, the Information Workbench integrates and correlates data from different sources, be it enterprise-internal or public sources, and enables semantic access and intelligent search across the entire data set and across the border of individual domains. By allowing users to create and customize their own dashboards and reports, the Information Workbench enables advanced analytics and collaborative knowledge acquisition and augmentation.
The Information Workbench was designed as a self-service platform and provides users with various tools and features needed to quickly build their personal Linked Data solutions. The process of building linked data applications in a self-service manner is supported and driven by the following features of the Information Workbench:
- the concept of data providers, which form the basis for information integration and enable the fast pay-as-you-go integration of legacy data sources from virtually every accessible data source,
- a flexible, widget-based user interface, which is highly configurable and easily extendable,
- analysis, collaborative Knowledge Management and Operations Management based on Wiki technologies.
The Information Workbench is the ideal solution for integrating and correlating enterprise-internal information with public information available on the Web, thus allowing users to establish previously unknown relationships. The Information Workbench has been implemented as an information management tool in the areas of media management, life sciences, as well as data centers.
Cloud Technologies for Linked Data Management
Exploiting its strong expertise in Cloud Management, fluidOps´ mission is to leverage the benefits of the Cloud for Semantic Data Management. Aligned with the self-service paradigm and based on Cloud Technologies, the Information Workbench can be deployed on demand as a virtual appliance – ready to be used from minute one. Furthermore the platform implements a data as a service concept, allowing to virtually integrate data sets from the public or private Cloud. This is made possible by FedX, a practical framework for transparent access to Linked Data sources, which facilitates the easy usage of these data sets through a federation. It incorporates new sophisticated optimization techniques combined with effective variants of existing techniques and is thus a highly scalable solution for practical federated query processing. ISWC 2011 Conference Explorer Powered by the Information Workbench
An ISWC 2011 Conference Explorer powered by the Information Workbench was submitted to the Second Linked Data-a-thon and will be presented at the Linked Data gathering during ISWC 2011.
The Conference Explorer is an application for visitors of the ISWC. Driven by published event metadata augmented with other relevant data sources related to the conference as well as user-generated content, the Conference Explorer aims to serve as a one-stop-shop for the conference attendee, supporting many activities when planning and attending the conference. Our application presents data mainly grouped around conference events (such as sessions or talks) and people who are associated with those events (such as authors). However, we also offer a view on the conference as a whole, which does not only serve as an overview and entry point to browse the more specific information but also provides additional statistical information calculated from the available data.
