When using RDP to connect to one of the systems inside a VLM encapsulated landscape, the user may encounter hanging RDP connection or that no connection is possible. Especially this issue occurs during the login phase where the login dialog gets displayed but afterwards the screen just turns black and the connection gets dropped after some time.
This problem is caused by a bug in the implementation of the VMware Enhanced FlexNet driver that causes in combination with RDP deadlocks in the TCP-stack of the ESX host. More specifically the issue only occurs when routing or forwarding between different VLANs through different NICs that are attached to the same virtual machine happens.
To resolve the issue, switch all NICs to use the E1000 emulation driver.
