VMware's vCenter or VirtualCenter uses an Internet Explorer component to display the tabs of installed 3rd party plugins. Therefore, any IE settings will have an impact on any vCenter plugin.
If the plugin tabs only show blank content or an IE error message is displayed that the page cannot be displayed, the proxy settings of the IE where the vCenter client runs on may not be correct or the host with the eCM installation is not reachable.
Check proxy settings
To check this, follow this procedure:
1. Open Internet Explorer
2. Go to Tools->Internet Options->Connection->LAN Settings
3. Check whether a proxy is configured or if you get the proxy configuration automatically.
4a. If a proxy is configured, make sure that the hostname/domain of the machine where the eCM is installed is in the list of exceptions.
4b. If you get an automatic proxy configuration, ask your administrator to add an exception for the eCM installation.
Connection issues
Connection problems can be cause by various network settings. Therefore you we only can give some tips how to test the network setup:
- Try to ping the eCM host. If that does not work, make sure the DNS settings are correct.
- Try to ping the eCM host by its IP address.
- Can the eCM main webpage be accessed using a non-IE browser?
Certificate issues
By default eCM installs a test certificate. Depending on the IE security settings HTTPS connections may no get accepted when a test certificate is in place. Either the test certificate and its Certificate Authority's certificate need to be installed into the certificate store of the IE or the eCM certificate needs to be exchanged with a valid certificate.
